Dr. Vasan S.S
A urologist by training and an andrologist by career. Three decades in surgical and reproductive andrology, two fellowship programmes, and a laboratory practice built around looking further than a routine semen analysis.
Why Ankur is built the way it is
Andrology in India grew up inside urology departments and fertility clinics, treated as surgical support for someone else’s speciality. Dr. Vasan trained as a urologist — DNB Urology in 1995, Fellow of the International College of Surgeons in 1996, advanced urology training in London, then a fellowship in andrology and incontinence in Singapore — and then spent his career arguing that male reproductive and sexual health is a speciality in its own right.
Ankur is the practical form of that argument: a centre where andrology is not a department but the whole practice, with the diagnostics, microsurgery and reproductive medicine that follow from taking it seriously.

Research and laboratory work
The diagnostic approach at Ankur comes out of a body of laboratory work rather than a purchasing decision. It includes flow-cytometric assessment of sperm DNA fragmentation, specialised sperm transport media, non-cryogenic transport systems, and research into point-of-care and home-based semen assessment.
The same work underpins the centralised andrology laboratory model for DNA fragmentation index and reactive oxygen species testing.
